Auszug aus Wiens spektakulärem
Ausstellungsprogramm.
Die Albertina begeht heuer ihr 20-Jahr-Jubiläum. 2003 wurde
nach umfangreichen Renovierungs- und Erweiterungsarbeiten
wieder erönet. Gefeiert wird mit einer Sonderausstellung – und
das im Doppelpack: Ein spektakuläres Ausstellungsduett (erstmals
parallel in der Albertina und in ihrer Dependance Albertina modern)
beleuchtet sechs Jahrhunderte Druckgraik, von Albrecht Dürer bis
zur Gegenwart. Zusammengestellt aus eigenen Beständen, behei-
matet die Albertina doch eine der bedeutendsten graischen Samm-
lungen der Welt mit über einer Million Zeichnungen und Druck-
graiken. Deren Grundstein wurde von Sammlungsgründer und
Museums-Namensgeber Herzog Albert von Sachsen-Teschen 1776
gelegt. „Dürer, Munch, Miró – The Great Masters of Printmaking“ im
Haupthaus blickt auf die Anfänge der Druckgraik bis zur Moderne.
„Andy Warhol bis Damien Hirst – The Revolution in Printmaking“ in
der Albertina modern zeigt Schlüsselwerke nach 1945.
Weitere, mit Spannung erwartete Jubiläums-Ausstellungen der
Albertina im ersten Halbjahr: Alex Katz zum 95. Geburtstag (ab 7.3.),
Pablo Picasso zum 50. Todestag (ab 17.3.) und Georg Baselitz zum
85. Geburtstag (ab 7.6.).
Blockbuster: Baselitz und Klimt
Apropos Baselitz: Der vielbeachtete deutsche Künstler lädt selbst
zu einer außergewöhnlichen Schau in Wien ein. „Nackte Meister“
im Kunsthistorischen Museum Wien (KHM) zeigt 80 seiner Arbeiten
im spannenden Dialog mit 40 Werken Alter Meister aus der KHM-
Gemäldegalerie. Baselitz nahm die Auswahl selbst vor. Alle Werke
vereint ein zentrales Motiv: Nacktheit.
Gegenüberstellungen begeistern die Kunst-Fans derzeit auch
im Unteren Belvedere: Die Highlight-Ausstellung „Klimt. Inspired
by Van Gogh, Rodin, Matisse…“ zieht Vergleiche zwischen dem
Wiener Jugendstil-Genie und seinen Zeitgenoss:innen der west-
europäischen Avantgarde: Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Henri
Matisse und Co.
Würth Collection zu Gast in Wien
Dieses Frühjahr entpuppt sich als wahres Freudenfest für Lieb-
haber:innen der klassischen Moderne und zeitgenössischen Kunst.
Das Leopold Museum zeigt ab 5.4. erstmals in Österreich rund
200 Werke aus der deutschen Sammlung Würth, einer der bedeu-
tendsten Kunstsammlungen der Welt. Unter dem Motto „Amazing“
warten 100 Jahre Kunstgeschichte geballt auf zwei Ausstellungs-
ebenen. Mit Hochkarätern von Pablo Picasso, Edvard Munch, Georg
Baselitz, Gerhard Richter und vielen weiteren.

This year, the Albertina is celebrating the 20th anniversary of
its grand reopening in 2003 following an extensive renovation and
expansion project. It has chosen to mark the occasion with twin
celebratory temporary exhibitions, which will run at both of its loca-
tions – the Albertina and its satellite, the Albertina modern – in parallel
for the irst time. Illuminating six centuries of printed works, the
shows will cover everything from Albrecht Dürer to the present. The
exhibits themselves are taken from its own holdings – after all, the
Albertina is home to one of the most important graphic collections in
the world, with over one million drawings and prints. The foundations
of the collection were laid in 1776 by Duke Albert of Saxony-Teschen,
who the museum is also named for. Hosted in the main building,
Dürer, Munch, Miró – The Great Masters of Printmaking explores the
genre all the way from its early origins through to the modern era.
Meanwhile, at the Albertina modern, Andy Warhol to Damien Hirst –
The Revolution in Printmaking will focus on key post-war works.
Other highly anticipated Albertina anniversary exhibitions in the
irst half of the year: Alex Katz on his 95th birthday (opens March 7),
Pablo Picasso on the 50th anniversary of his death (opens March 17)
and Georg Baselitz on his 85th birthday (opens June 7).
Blockbuster: Baselitz and Klimt
Speaking of Baselitz: the celebrated German artist himself
is hosting an extraordinary show in Vienna. Naked Masters at the
Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna (KHM) presents 80 of his works
in a thought-provoking dialogue with 40 old masters from the KHM
Picture Gallery. Baselitz curated the selection himself and all of the
works are united by a central motif: nudity.
The art of juxtaposition is also giving art fans a treat at the Lower
Belvedere: stand-out exhibition “Klimt. Inspired by Van Gogh, Rodin,

Matisse…” draws comparisons between the Viennese Art Nouveau
genius and his contemporaries from the Western European avant-
garde, such as Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Henri Matisse.
Würth Collection Visits Vienna
This spring is shaping up to be a real feast for lovers of early
modernist and contemporary art. Opening on April 5, the Leopold
Museum will be showing around 200 works from Germany’s world-
class Würth Collection for the irst time in Austria. In a show entitled
Amazing, it will take a concentrated look at 100 years of art history
on two exhibition levels. Top-class works by Pablo Picasso, Edvard
Munch, Georg Baselitz, Gerhard Richter and many more will feature.
